Abdullah Bosnavi’s Remarks on anthropomorphism (tashbih) and transcendentalism (tanzih) in his Fusus al-Hikam Commentary
Abdullah Bosnavi’s work called Tajalliyâtu arâisi’n-nusûs maintains its importance as the first commentary written in Turkish on Fusûsu’l-Hikam. In our article we addressed the reflections of the concepts of anthropomorphism (tashbîh) and transcendentalism (tanzîh) in Bosnavi’s aforementioned work, which gained new dimensions through Ibn Arabi’s thought. Among the reasons for choosing Bosnavî’s commentary, the followings can be mentioned: in consequence of being the very first commentary of the Fusûs in Turkish, Tajalliyât had a direct impact on the Ottoman intellectual and cultural circles; and as one of the most vigorous followers of Ibn Arabî, Bosnavi’s remarks on the concept of anthropomorphism (tashbih) and transcendentalism (tanzih) are quite clear and based on evidences. The subjects briefly mentioned in Fusûs by Ibn Arabi were emphasized in Bosnavi’s commentary because of their critical approaches to theological and philosophical viewpoints; moreover, an abstract and specific subject such as anthropomorphism and transcendentalism has been functionally dealt with on a concrete basis. When considered from this point of view, Bosnavi’s inferences concerning anthropomorphism and transcendentalism are noteworthy in reflecting sufi inclinations as well.
